Contoh Story Telling – Menceritakan suatu hal adalah hal yang menyenangkan. Selain memberikan hiburan, hal ini juga bisa memberikan informasi kepada para pendengar. Bercerita erat kaitannya dengan berbahasa. Dalam bahasa Inggris sendiri, menceritakan suau hal disebut dengan story telling.

Story telling memberikan kesempatan bagi pembelajar bahasa untuk menceritakan suatu hal. Hal tersebut bisa berupa pengalaman, hal lucu, maupun hal lainnya. Dengan story telling ini mereka bisa melatih keterampilan public speaking-nya. Berbeda dengan speech, story telling ini bersifat lebih santai dan tidak dibatasai oleh penentuan tema.

Untuk menambah kekuatan ceritanya, seorang storyteller biasanya menggunakan alat-alat dalam menyampaikan ceritanya. 1. PENGERTIAN STORY TELLING

Story telling adalah kemampuan seseorang dalam menyampaikan sebuah cerita, kisah, dan juga dialog. Hal ini bisa dimiliki oleh siapa saja, misalnya saja film maker, komikus, maupun cerpenis dan novelis. Mereka memiliki gaya dan cara penyampaian yang berbeda-beda. Cerita yang disampaikannya pun akan berbeda pula.

Seorang storyteller harus mampu menarik minat pendengar. Menarik minat pendengar bisa dengan gaya, intonasi, dan alat bantu yang menari. Story telling biasanya digunakan dalam proses belajar mengajar, terutama pada tingkat pemula dan anak-anak. Hal ini sangat bermanfaat karena dapat melatih kemampuan mendengar secara menyenagkan.

Seorang storyteller harus memiliki kemampuan public speaking yang baik, memahami karakter pendengar, meniru suara-suara, dan terampil memeragakan alat bantu. Storyteller dikatakan berhasil jika pendengar mampu memahami jalan cerita serta merasa terhibur. Selain itu, pesan moral dalam cerita pun harus bisa didapat oleh para pendengar.

 

 

 

2. GENERIC STRUCTURE STORY TELLING

– Orientation

Bagian orientation biasanya terletak di paragraf pertama. Bagian ini berisi pesan tentang informasi 5W. Pada paragraf ini, text akan memberitahukan pembaca mengenai apa dan siapa yang ada dalam sebuah cerita. Selain itu, menjelaskan pula tempat dan kapan terjas=dinya sebuah peristiwa.

 

 

– Complication

Dalam paragraf ini, menceritakan apa yang terjadi dengan pelaku dalam suatu peristiwa. Bagian complication ini umumnya berisi kesinambungan antar pelaku peristiwa. Hal ini menimbulkan sebuah konflik atau pertentangan. Dalam sebuah teori literary, konflik umumnya dibedakan menjadi tiga bagian, yaitu konflik natural, konflik sosial, dan konflik psikologi.

 

 

– Resolution

Untuk menyudahi sebuah konflik, perlu adanya sebuah penyelesaian. Dalam banyak cerita, selalu ditemukan akhir cerita yang menyenangkan hingga menyedihkan. Semua akhir cerita tergantung pada penulis cerita tersebut.

 

 

 

3. HAL YANG HARUS DIPERHATIKAN DALAM STORY TELLING

Ada beberapa hal yang harus diperhatikan saat kita akan melakukan story telling, diantaranya adalah:

 

 

– Kontak Mata

Kontak mata merupakan hal yang paling penting. Hal ini disebabkan karena dengan adanya kontak mata, audience akan merasa diperhatikan. Selain itu, kita dapat berinteraksi dengan audience dan melihat apakah mereka menyimak jalan cerita yang didongengkan atau tidak. Oleh karena itu, penting sekali bagi kita untuk melakukan hal ini selama story telling berlangsung.

 

 

– Mimik Wajah

Pendongeng harus dapat mengekspresi wajahnya sesuai dengan yang di dongengkan. Pada waktu story telling sedang berlangsung, mimik wajah pendongeng dapat menunjang hidup atau tidaknya sebuah cerita yang disampaikan.

 

 

– Gerak Tubuh

Hal pendukung lainnya adalah gerak tubub storyteller. Hal ini dapat menggambarkan jalan cerita yang lebih menarik. Jika di dalam suatu cerita atau dongeng tidak terdapat gerakan-gerakan yang merefleksikan apa yang dilakukan tokoh-tokoh di dalamnya, maka cerita tersebut akan membosankan. Maka dari itu, penting sekali bagi kita untuk menambah gerakan untuk membuat cerita lebih menarik.

 

 

Suara

Selain hal-hal yang sebelumnya dibahas, suara juga merupakan hal yang perlu diperhatikan. Intonasi suara berguna untuk merefleksikan cerita, hal ini juga bertujuan untuk membuat cerita lebih hidup dan menghibur para pendengar. Pendongeng profesional biasanya mampu menirukan suara-suara dari karakter tokoh yang didongengkan, misalnya suara ayam, suara pintu yang terbuka, dan lain-lain.

 

 

Kecepatan

Pendongeng harus dapat menjaga kecepatan atau tempo pada saat story telling. Agar kecepatan yang dapat membuat anak-anak manjadi bingung ataupun terlalu lambat sehingga menyebabkan anak-anak menjadi bosan.

 

 

– Alat Peraga

Alat peraga diperlukan untuk menarik minat pendengar. Hal ini dapat menambah keingintahuan pendengar untuk mengetahui jalan ceritanya. Alat-alat ini bisa berupa boneka kecil yang dipakai di tangan ataupun alat peraga lainnya.

1. The Lion and the Mouse

Once when a lion, the king of the jungle, was asleep. A little mouse began running up and down on him. This soon awakened the lion, who placed his huge paw on the mouse, and opened his big jaws to swallow him.

“Pardon, O King!” cried the little Mouse, “Forgive me this time. I shall never repeat it and I shall never forget your kindness. And who knows, I may be able to do you a good turn one of these days!”

The Lion was so tickled by the idea of the mouse being able to help him that he lifted his paw and let him go.

Sometime later, a few hunters captured the lion, and tied him to a tree. After that they went in search of a wagon, to take him to the zoo.

Just then the little mouse happened to pass by. On seeing the lion’s plight, he ran up to him and gnawed away the ropes that bound him, the king of the jungle.

“Was I not right?” said the little mouse, very happy to help the lion.

 

 

2. The Eagle Who Lived Like a Hen

In a forest an eagle lived on a tree. It had built a nest wherein to lay its eggs. There the eagle would hatch its eggs all through the day.

Under the same tree there lived a hen. The hen had also laid eggs during the same period when the eagle had laid its eggs.

One day, while the eagle had gone for hunting, a bear climbed up the tree to eat the eagle’s eggs. The bear had finished three of the eggs when the fourth one slipped off its hands and fell into the hen’s nest. On returning, the eagle could not find her eggs. Feeling terribly upset, she decided to leave the place.

The hen which lived under the tree saw the eagle’s egg by the side of her eggs. She felt eggs pity on the eagle’s egg, and decided to hatch it too. After a few days, the hen’s chicks hatched. The eagle’s chick hatched, too.

The hen would feed all the chicks, including the eagle’s chick, as if it were her own. Soon the chicks began to grow.

The young chicks would listen to their mother’s sounds and try to imitate her. The eagle’s chick also picked up the hen’s sounds. The chicks would all play together and make lots of noise.

Within no time the hen’s chicks as well as the eagle’s chick grew up to their full size. The eagle’s chick never realized that it was an eagle and not a hen. Considering itself a hen, the eagle would. eat hen’s food, would walk and run like other hens and would make sounds like hens. The eagle never learn to fly like other eagles and lived its whole life like a hen only.

 

 

3. The Boy Who Cried Wolf

A shepherd-boy, who watched a group of sheep near a village, shocked out the villagers three or four times by screaming out, “Wolf! Wolf!” and when his neighbors were there to help him,he laughed at them for their pains.

However the Wolf, truly come at last. The Shepherd-boy, now really in danger, cried in an agony of terror: “Pray, please come and help me; the Wolf is approaching to kill the sheep”; but no one paid any attention to his cries, nor rendered any help. The Wolf, having no cause of scary, at his leisure lacerated or destroyed the whole sheep in group.

There is no believing  liars, even when they speak the truth.

 

 

4. The Cat and The Fox

A cat and a fox were once discussing about hounds.

The cat said, “I hate hounds. They are very nasty animals. They hunt and kill us”.

The fox said, “I hate hounds more than you”. .

The cat asked, “How do you save yourself from hounds?”

The fox replied, “There are many tricks to get away from hounds”.

The cat asked “Can you say what your tricks are?”

“They are very simple”, said the fox. He added, “I can hide behind thick bushes. I can run along thorny hedges. I can hide in burrows. There are many more such tricks”.

Now it was the turn of the fox to ask the cat about her tricks.

The fox asked, “How many tricks do you know?”

The cat replied, “I know just one trick”.

The Fox sneered, “Oh! How sad! You know only one trick? What is your trick?”

The cat was about to answer. But, she found a flock of hounds fast approach. She said, “I am going to do it now. Because the hounds are coming”.

Saying these words, the cat ran up a nearby tree safe from the hounds. The fox tried all his tricks but the hounds out beat him. “My one trick is better than all his tricks”, said the cat to herself.

 

 

5. The Dog and The Cows

The cows used to eat hay from the manger. One day a herd of cows came to the manger to eat hay. They saw a dog lying on the hay in the manger.

One of the cows pleaded, “Please, will you get up! We are hungry. We have to eat our hay”. The dog did not take heed of it.

Once again another cow pleaded, “Please, let us have our hay”. The dog snarled and the cow stepped back.

A wise cow ran up to the bull and told him the matter.

The bull came and requested, “Get out, please! Let them have their food”. There was no reply. The bull became angry. He bellowed loudly and stamped his legs. The dog got frightened and ran for his life.

 

 

6. The Crow and The Eagle

There lived a crow on a tree top. Everyday he used to watch with utter wonder the acts of an eagle.

The eagle had a nest high up on a mountain. He used to swoop down from there to get hold of a lamb and fly up again and all in one go.

The crow was amazed by the feat of the eagle.

One day he was so excited that he wanted to imitate the eagle. So up he flew as high as he could. From there he began to swoop down. He came down and down. But alas, he could not control himself. He crashed on the ground and broke his beak.

 

 

7. The Dog and The Donkey

There lived a dog and a donkey in a house of a rich man. The dog guarded his house and the donkey carried loads for him.

It was a hot afternoon. The dog was sleeping under the shady veranda. There was some noise outside. The dog just lifted up his head and went back to sleep.

The donkey asked, “Why don’t you bark. It could be thieves”. The dog replied, “Mind your own business”. But the donkey would not listen. He wanted to save his master from thieves. He started to bray.

The master who was sound asleep got wild with the donkey and came running out with a stick and gave hard beatings to the donkey.

 

 

8. The Dove and The Ant

Once, a dove saw an ant struggling in the water.

He took pity on the ant and threw down a leaf.

The ant climbed on to the leaf and reached the shore safely.

After some days, the ant saw the hunter aiming an arrow at the dove flying above.

He wanted to save the dove. So, he bit the hunter’s leg.

The hunter missed his aim and the dove flew safely.

 

 

9. The Foolish Donkey

A salt seller used to carry the salt bag on his donkey to the market every day. On the way they had to cross a stream. One day the donkey suddenly tumbled down the stream and the salt bag also fell into the water. The salt dissolved in the water and hence the bag became very light to carry. The donkey was happy.

Then the donkey started to play the same trick every day. The salt seller came to understand the trick and decided to teach a lesson to it. The next day he loaded a cotton bag on the donkey. Again it played the same trick hoping that the cotton bag would be still become lighter.

But the dampened cotton became very heavy to carry and it suffered much. It learn a lesson. Afterwards it did not play the trick and the seller was happy.

 

 

10. The Goose with the Golden Eggs

Once upon a time, a man and his wife had the good fortune to have a goose which laid a golden egg every day. Lucky though they were, they soon began to think they were not getting rich fast enough.

They imagined that if the bird must be able to lay golden eggs, its insides must be made of gold. And they thought that if they could get all that precious metal at once, they would get mighty rich very soon. So the man and his wife decided to kill the bird.

However, upon cutting the goose open, they were shocked to find that its innards were like that of any other goose!
